Meet The Bristol Branch Manager.
Meet Glyn Chapman the BBL Bristol Branch manager. Glyn has been part of the BBL team since April 2013 and had been a BBL customer for 24 years before that. Glyn says his favourite part about working at BBL is “I enjoy the face-to-face interaction with our customers on the trade counter. My role in BBL is very varied. so, I find no two days are the same.”
It’s fair to say Glyn knows his batteries and the battery industry! We asked Glyn what he thought everyone should know about batteries, “Batteries like to be used and they need a bit of TLC to keep them in good condition – they fail prematurely when they are left for months not being used”.
BBL stocks more than 250 types of batteries, from the smallest motorcycle battery through to the largest commercial vehicle battery; so, what is Glyn’s favourite battery? “The battery that I feel an affinity with is the good old 063 car battery. When I first started out in the car accessory trade at the age of 17 years old, it was always the best-selling battery and would sell for under £20. They still sell now in good numbers, but prices have gone up a bit since then.”
While the 063, the old staple, will be around for a few more years to come, we asked Glyn what new battery technologies he thought were interesting, “The introduction of lithium batteries into the leisure market has certainly been well received. I was fortunate to work on our stand for a couple of days at the Caravan, Camping, and Motorhome Show at the NEC last February. We took out a range of Avon Lithium Leisure batteries, and I think spent 85% of each day talking to people who were keen to know about the benefits of this new technology. Due to the success of the range, we are back there next year Show (Feb 22nd- 27th) and I look forward to meeting and talking Lithium Leisure with our customers again.”
When Glyn isn’t in the battery world you can find him playing golf, gardening, or feeding his koi carp! You can visit Glyn and his team at BBL Bristol Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm. For expert advice call on 0117 9550535.
